From scary as hell to weird as hell to just plain "nice"---there were so many ways a show/run could end. I'm sorry that this one doesn't qualify as a best show experience, but here we go...hijack!

Alright, I'm showing may age here---fist show, Spectrum in Phili, 10/19/89. Only 2 of the 3 of us got into the show after purchasing Larry's Special Delivery. It took listening to a tape later to really appreciate how good the show actually was. Anyway, the 3rd person ended up running down the battery in the car while listening to the radio. So after trying to leave after the show, for some reason the couple of different people that tried to help jump start the car were not able to get it started. So here we were stuck in the parking lot right next to & along the main road in front of the venue. So after alittle more coming down off the acid we decided to see if we could find more help and walked around JFK which was still standing @ the time. We'd walked around the stadium---the lot was pretty much empty at this point---and saw this guy who was BUGGIN OUT!!! Whoopin & hoolerin & jumpin around, running up on the hoods of cars, and he even caved in the roof of a couple of parked cars by jumping up & down on them. We started back to the car to try & sleep some & walking across the lot we turned as we heard footfalls running up behind us---it was Buggin Out! Anyone catch the Do The Right Thing reference? Anyway, he's out of breath, and starts into this rant about how he's lost his friends & can't find them. Then he stops his rant for a sec & starts saying something about his friend Howie & how Howie screwed him over. "Okay, okay, I'm "so&so", you be Susie, and YOU be Howie", pointing to me. Well, with all the gibberish about Howie screwing him over & how terrible that was, I immediately got kinda scared---he turns to my friend he called Susie as if to say "on the count of 3 we rush him" and he's whispering & looking @ me out of the corner of his eye---and I'm freaking out some more. Well, he turns back to me & I see FIRE in his eyes!!! Just as he starts toward me, suddenly a paddy wagon & 2 cop cars pull up beside us & get out & they say something to the effect "hey you, come here!" The fire goes out in his eyes right away, and then he puts his arms around our shoulders pulling us into a small huddle and says--get this--"alright fellas, lets fuck them up." My friend & I turn & start running away. As we turn around a sec or 2 later we see Buggin Out take a swing @ 2 of the pigs, who then let loose with their clubs for several whacks a piece...I SWEAR I heard the clubs break bones from where we were. Three of the pigs jump on top of him, cuff him & pick the guy up & throw him into the back of the paddy wagon. They then all got into their cars and drove away. I was expecting them to come up & shake us down, or question us at least, but nothing happened.

We managed to get the car started after daylight the next morning & drive home---still freaked out from the goings-on overnight.

WORST: 6/24/95 RFK

Intense mushroom trip - took a turn for the worse as we got lost in a D.C. ghetto...

There was an erie sense that night (probably that whole tour) that the end was near.

Yea man...I got us lost in DC's ghetto's a few times after shows. My brother-in-law was interning for a DC Council member for a couple years & we'd stay @ his apartment after shows. An apartment without air conditioning & in not so great-a-neighborhood. We'd go the 7-11 just up the block & we'd be the only white people in a store FULL of brown people @ 2:00 in the morning---not scary, but weird.

Best After Show experience---I guess it's as imple as how much $ I made after both Sat & Sun night shows @ RFK one year. I was working for a cookie bakery---Uncle Ralphs Not Yet Famous---and had boxes & boxes of cookies to sell. For every tray of cookies we had to bake, we had to make extra just incase something went wrong somewhere. So, a week before a show(s) I'd make extra extras & take them home & to friends freezers so I had them to sell. I got paid while making them, took them home for free, then got paid selling them---a better deal you almost couldn't find. In one weekend I took home about $500. This was AFTER paying parking fees, food & drink for a VW bus load of people while we were there, mushrooms & nugs for all, t-shirts, stickers, etc.

"REALLY FUCKIN' GOOD COOKIES!!!---2 f/$1 or 5 f/2 bucks!!!" That was my sales pitch & it worked well both before & after the show. Having sooooo many people with the munchies was a boom to business.

Well, it wasn't mine--it was a good friend's. We had tickets for the whole run at the Academy of Music (right before the Europe '72 tour). We went the first night, and, as we left the venue noticed that Ken had red dots all over him. My father was an M.D. and diagnosed ken as having the mumps. he spent the week at my parents' apartment--though they seemed to have an okay time.

Tough break for a fine player!
